The Lions Constellation – Flashing Light CD
We don't know who had the brilliant idea of using the term "shoegazer" for that musician who appeared on stage with his head down, looking at his shoes instead of the audience. Nor will we say whether the term seems appropriate or not. But it does seem appropriate to us when talking about The Lions Constellation. And not because you look at the shoes, but because their influences are fundamentally those of bands of that style.
Bands that do not base their speech on extroversion, on live explosion, on frontal speech with their audience; rather bands that plunge into a state of catharsis when they let the feedback from their amps fill the atmosphere of the room, when they let the darkness take over the environment and, through a wall of sound, thread their speech with serenity mysterious, making the listener get carried away by the decibels in a kind of dreamy trance. That is what The Lions Constellation offers us: poetry dark and loud, elegant and subtle, monochrome and atmospheric. They drink from masters like The Jesus and Mary Chain or My Bloody Valentine, but also Spacemen3, Ride or 13th Floor Elevators, without forgetting that the punk/soul/garage background of their members gives an often unexpected twist to the guitar distortion network. A cross between the hippism and psychedelia of the '60s with the indie of the '90s. And it is that its members do not appear out of nowhere: the group revolves around the figure of two brothers: RJ Sinclair, voice of Tokyo Sex Destruction and bassist of It's Not Not, and Graham, well-known Barcelona nightlife DJ, resident in the hall [2] of the Apollo. Together with them, P. Arthur and J.Robert hypnotize us and make us swing our waists from side to side without us noticing.
